Brendan Eich

Birth: July 4, 1961 (Pittsburg Pennsylvania) – current day.

Major Academic Events

Brendan Eich went on to pursue his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, then at Santa Clara University. While there, he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degree in mathematics and computer science. To being his successful career, he began working at Silicon Graphics for 7 years. Throughout this time, he would gain the experience of operating systems and network code. He specialized in the field of coding, even creating his own language, JavaScript, a renowned coding script. Because of this, he won the Ecma Fellow Award (2014).

Contributions to Computer Science

Created JavaScript, an OOP programing script. It’s like Java. CEO of the Mozilla Foundation. (This non-profit organization helped ensured that the Internet remains a public resource accessible to all.) Mozilla is known for creating the web browser, Mozilla Firefox. The language JavaScript has led the way for many different web designers, as JavaScript is one of the main languages used for creating websites. Because of this, web designing has become easier and more accessible to everyone, allowing for the further spread of information.

Tim Berners Lee

Birth: June 8, 1955, in London, England.

Major Academic Events: Both of his parents were both advent in computers, so naturally, as a kid he was exposed to computers. This sparked his interest in the computer field. He went to Oxford University and graduated in 1976. This would be the beginning and where his career took place. Some rewards include the Charles Stark Draper Prize (2007), Internet Hall of Fame, and the Charles Babbage award.

Contributions to Computer Science: What is the Internet? The internet is a global network that connects computing devices across the world following certain protocols. Tim Berners Lee is credited for the creation of the Internet. To do this, he had to utilize hyperlinks to link other stuff to it. Throughout the years, he would work with many companies and pursue his advancements of the Internet. Today he is the director of the World Wide Web foundation.

Alan Turing

Birth-Death: June 23, 1912 – June 7, 1954.

Major Academic Events: Alan attended a prestigious and notable private school before attending the University of Cambridge to study mathematics. Within Cambridge, he would go to King’s College. Once completing his fellowship there, he would go to Princeton University to get his PHD in mathematical logic.

Contributions to Computer Science: In 1945, he was recruited by the National Physical Laboratory to help develop the first electronic computer. He fueled the creation of the Automatic Computing Engine. However, to the doubt of his peers, they never developed it in fear of it being too difficult. This was the systematic name of the Turing Machine.
